Air Navigation key features
MOVING MAP
Moving map displays nearby navigation flight paths as well as airfields. Free official maps
and charts are all downloadable from the application. The software supports standard IOS gestures for zoom in/out and
pan and centre. It also supports north orientation and track orientation. When available, airspaces are displayed on
overlay to help plan your route. A route or direct path is displayed as a magenta vector (great circle / shortest
path).
NAVIGATION PLANNING
Multiple stopover navigation flight plan editor shows graphical input on flight paths from
maps or database. A route can be displayed on the moving map as vectors. It will calculate next flight path, distance,
track and heading. ETE and ETA is calculated from your current speed while in-flight, or from intended cruise speed and
wind information entered when you established your flight plan.
INSTRUMENTS
Air Navigation imitates real aircraft instruments, gathering information from GPS to create
realistic images. You will not only get a moving map, but also instruments such as HSI, VOR, ADF, ground speedometer,
altimeter and compass. The navigation instruments work not only with specific flight paths, but also with airports,
check points, IFR points etc.
FREE MAPS
Free downloads are available of open source map background based on the well-
known OpenstreetMap project. Aeronautical information such as flight paths and airports are overlaid on the display.
When available we will also display airspace information on the moving map. Map data will be stored on your device so
you don't need an internet connection, unlike other map applications.
OFFICIAL MAPS
Free maps are useful, but nothing
can replace an official aeronautical chart. Our map store has various official ICAO aviation charts for 10 European
countries, sectional charts for the US and aviation charts for New Zealand. We also plan to
introduce
Visual Approach charts as geo referenced documents and PDFs for Germany and France. Other countries will be
available soon.
DATABASE
The built-in database contains more than 160000 worldwide aviation waypoints including
airports, heliports, navigational aids, check points and IFR points. A simple touch on the moving map screen gives you
information such as runway length and orientation, frequencies, elevation and much more. Airspace vectors are also
displayed on the moving map screen and can be touched to get information such as Airspace class, name, lower limit,
upper limit, etc.
FLIGHT RECORDER
Once switched on and a block-off time set (either manually or automatically),
the flight recorder will start recording your GPS position and altitude. It will stop when block-on time is set. Back at
home, you can process the recorded flight into a KML file that can be viewed in Google Earth.
AUTO-LOGBOOK
Totally automatic and editable, the logbook uses GPS information to detect block and flight time, as well as departure and
arrival sites. The Logbook stores time as UTC and all values are fully editable. Logbook entries can be sent by email
or downloaded to a desktop computer.
X-PLANE BRIDGE
Air Navigation can be linked to the X-Plane flight simulator. This
is a great feature for training at home when bad weather prevents real flying! Also, simulator enthusiasts can add a
full moving map system to their Sim setup. Currently we have an
X-Plane 9 plugin for Windows and Mac OS X.
CUSTOMIZABLE
Air Navigation can be customized with your preferred instruments. You can import/export your own flight
paths or airspaces (OpenAir or Tim Newport Peace formats), from your desktop PC. You can import flight plans from other
GPS software in GPX format.
iOS
Air Navigation is designed to run on iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. If you own both an
iPhone and an iPad, you will only need to purchase the application once, as the same application will run on both
devices. iPhones 3G, 3GS, 4 and iPads 3G have integrated GPS that will provide accurate positioning and good
estimation of altitude (within 200 ft). Air Navigation will support external GPS modules that are compatible with IOS
devices. It is therefore possible to use an iPad Wifi or iPod Touch with external GPS modules.
*An external GPS device is mandatory for real time navigation on an iPad Wifi and iPod Touch.
+ MORE
Air Navigation has many more features
that you can discover by referring to the user manual available in our
"support" section. We are always working on new
features so, expect an even better product in the near future!
